SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES WITH RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION: ODS 11 AND 12
Sustainable cities and communities drive global sustainability. Stay tuned to this blog to learn more!
Cities are inspirational hubs where ideas, commerce and culture enable people to progress socially and economically.
Urbanization is an unstoppable phenomenon: some 4 billion people - half of humanity - live in cities and it is estimated that by 2050 this figure will rise to 5 billion.
We need to improve urban planning and management to make these spaces more inclusive, safe, residential and sustainable. Efficient use of resources and energy is a basic requirement to advance this goal.
Cities, although they occupy only 3% of the earth, are responsible for 80% of global GDP, 70% of energy consumed and 70% of CO2 emissions.
Reversing this reality requires new challenges, such as encouraging responsible and efficient consumption of resources, promoting environmental sustainability and reducing inequalities in urban spaces. Therefore, endorsing sustainable cities and communities, as well as the responsible production and consumption of resources have become the eleventh and twelfth of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, approved in September 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda.
METAS ODS 11 Y 12: OBJETIVOS DE DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE
- Ensure access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services.
- Increase inclusive and sustainable urbanization.
- Halve food waste at the retail level and in the production and supply chains.
- Reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse activities.
- Achieve sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
- Provide universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible green spaces and public spaces.
Sustainable cities and communities should be everyone's purpose. Let's unite to achieve it!
