Sustainable cities, closer every day

A sustainable city is one that offers quality of life to its inhabitants without putting resources at risk. It is a city that looks after the well-being of future humanity and strives for social justice.

Sustainable cities are those that strive and bet on a green and optimized planet through factors or solutions that improve the Earth's current performance.

One of the goals of sustainable development is to make cities and communities sustainable, and at Columat we are committed to investing in change and encourage each of us to do our part to build a sustainable and just future.

Sustainable cities

Do you know the concept of sustainable cities? The idea originated in 1994, when the Danish city of Aalborg witnessed a movement endorsed in the European Charter for Sustainable Cities, a text that has now been endorsed by more than 400 urban centers around the world.

The commitment sought to reinforce the care of the environment and the wellbeing of those who live in cities. The overpopulation of the planet, excessive consumption, scarcity of natural resources such as water and energy, pollution and social inequality, among other factors, prompted these new guidelines to implement solutions to improve resource management.

Promoting fair trade and reducing pollution levels

We need sustainable cities, communities that provide for themselves and guarantee continuity over time. The sustainable city is constantly evolving and there is no single model; each one adapts to its own solutions. Even so, it is essential to share a series of characteristics for the balance between development and well-being.

Entre las características comunes, favorecer un ecosistema de comercio justo y respaldar al comercio local es esencial para prosperar. Las comunidades sostenibles se oponen al consumo desmedido y fomentan la compra local y las personas productoras respetuosas con el medio ambiente.

Another essential issue is to take care of the planet's health by reducing CO2 emissions and positively impacting one of the biggest adversities: the last mile. Retailers can reach their customers while remaining sustainable.

We must support the lines and strategies that favor sustainable cities to build inclusive and respectful communities.
